Some riders are great at pointing it at kickers and rails—they huck and flip and tumble like tornado victims. We’re not saying that Scott Stevens can’t do that, because he can—and he’s damn good at it—but the bastard can entertain you just going down the hill. He snowboards like he has helium for heels and lightning-fast wheels. Scott Stevens caught our eye after winning a few SNOWBOARDER-sanctioned contests, and has grown more impressive each year. To say he is the Rodney Mullen of snowboarding would be to compare Scott to someone else, which is wack, but this smiling East Coast Wündershred is handy as hell on one of them snowboards. Just watch his frontflip to frontflip and Michael Jacksons, and you’ll want to be flipping to beat it, too. Bad. Real bad.

How would you define your snowboarding style?
I’m not really trying to have a certain style; I try to ride everything. Sometimes you get caught riding what’s most fun for you, and I tend to enjoy the wannabe skateboard style. It’s fun.

What has shaped you most as a rider?
Videos and my friends. I busted my VHS from slow-moing Mack Dawg’s Decade too much; I have a problem with being obsessed with snow and skate videos. And there’s nothing better than a good gang of friends to rip stuff with.

What have been the five most important moments in your snowboarding career?
Winning SNOWBOARDER’s Robot Food video-part contest, my first backflip, traveling more than the normal person, filming with Jesse Burtner and Think Thank, and getting a coaching job at High Cascade Snowboard Camp.

Do you get hurt a lot?
Unfortunately, I do. I need to start eating like an athlete, not a ten-year-old kid. More milk and less candy.

Talk about your film crew.
In order to do my job as a snowboarder, I have to either film a video part or do contests. I choose to do video parts, and filmed with Think Thank and Under Par. I mesh well with Think Thank. Everyone is on their own weird hunt for tricks, so it’s fun seeing all the progression. The feeling of having a part you’re proud of is a great sense of accomplishment, and I really want that.

Would you rather go wicked huge or do something wacky lower to the ground?
Deep down inside I want to go huge, but I really enjoy wacky lower. So a creepy medium seems best.

Say something that will shock people.
I sleep-walk and sleep-talk and leak my deepest and darkest secrets. It sucks being so vulnerable. I gotta duct tape my mouth at night and breathe through my nose more.

Scott Stevens is one of the chillest snowboarder I have ever met. I met him at the premier of the new Think Thank video "Stack Footy". Definitly worth watching if you have not seen it yet, scott has the ender.
