Up For Grabs: Win Jussi Oksanen's Snowboard Gear

Photo: Mike Yoshida

You may be wondering how Jussi Oksanen, who grew up riding the microscopic slopes of Talma, Finland—a resort that barely boasts booters of any measurable size— has become one of the most skilled and celebrated super-shreds of all time. Well, the answer is simple and vague—he’s just that good. Arguably one of the most talented and calculated jumpers of the current generation, Jussi came up through the ranks of Standard Films filming numerous next-level parts, like his Optigrab ender that included over a dozen switch tricks…in a row. After a brief stint with the video revolution that was Robot Food, Jussi landed a top spot with the top dog (Mack Dawg, that is), where he’s still punching out parts that push the level of what can be done on a snowboard. Now it’s your time to shine as Jussi’s full kit is up for the taking. Head over to snowboardermag.com/upforgrabs, where you can enter to win the Juice’s gear and get ready to drink it all in.

I love snowboarding so much I put every dime I got into riding. My gear is old, scratched to hell, I don't even have matching gloves. I'll sleep in my car to ride freshies! My brother has a pass to NorthStar & I can't afford to ride with him.

Jussi you rock! Your past video sections like in optigrab you did so many sweet switch tricks it was mind blowing. This year your burton board looks really awesome. It would be sweet to win one of the best riders gear and I would never forget it.

Hey Jussi, My name is Nick, and your set up is so sick. I have started to become a fan when you were starred in some YouTube movie. I was just at home one day sitting in front of my computer and awaiting the next snowfall so I could hit the new pow. There is only one problem, I don't have any equipment yet. I have been renting my equipment since I was 5 (I'm 16 now), and I just don't have the money to purchase one yet. I have been focusing on my studies, and have not had time for a job to buy this equipment. I have the largest passion for snowboarding. When I go to college, I am making sure that it will be close to a mountain resort. This set up would change my life. I am ready to pack my bags, and live the life of a all-time snowboarder. I have been rated an intermediate to advanced snowboarder, so you would not be at all disappointed with my ability level. Well, thanks for the opportunity, and I hope you make the right decision. -Nick

Just started snowboarding this season for the first time and I'm hooked. I can't get enough and I've been learning all I can. I need some gear of my own. I can't afford my own in this shitty economy.

Hey Jussi, I am Rocky - a JMU college student (not poor, but I do not have enough cabbage to buy the gear I would like) and live 10 minutes from a pretty tiny mountain called Masanuttin, because it pretty much is a "mass of nothing." But it is a mountain none the less! I don't hate, I appreciate. I love to ride, no matter where it is. Even if it is a pretty snow less East Coast mountain. I really need some quality Jussi Oksanen gear to keep riding with out going broke. Next stop Colorado! I cannot afford to buy all of the gear and get to the West Coast. Please help me out. Jussi Rocks! Gracias! Love, Rocky

JUSSI! I got your board as a Christmas gift from Santa Claus three years ago. I fell in love with it once I saw the graphics and took it to the slopes. The board was perfect for slashing powder, gripping ice, and tricking in the park. I ride this same board today, but not for long. Apparently Santa Claus did his shopping on Ebay that year and he didn't look at the fine print. To save money, I got a Burton factory second. Instead of having your typical graphic blemish, my board had extra metal in the base. One day after eating it on a box, I noticed what appeared to be metal staples sticking out of my deck. After taking a cruise the metal ripped out and left me with holes in my board. I took it to my local snowboard shop and they said that water had already penetrated my base and it would soon delaminate. I tried to get warranty info the Ebay seller promised but he quickly disappeared. This board is in bad shape and as a college student I can't afford a new board. I would love a new Jussi, please hook

Ive been snowboarding for my third year now.Ive improved a lot since my first year. I use some old gear and an older Lamar snowboard that i picked up for a good price at this old sports store that was closing in an small town. I just recently broke this Lamar snowboard and i think i am ready for an upgrade. I saw this up for grabs in the snowboarder mag and I thought I might give it a try.

Hey man, Tight pants fly faster, airblasters are from masters. But, Jussi...oh man..that stuff is just...so...OLDschool! Burton knows its stuff and is rockin the steezy looks. Unfortnatlly I have the oppurtunity to use my older brothers old scratched up cloths from his fresh powder days. I live down in the east coast of canada. we don't have much terrain...So steezy snowboard gear is DAMN hard to find! It would help alot if I had the honour to finally ride in my local park with steezy... because I was schooled...to be oldschool. Thanks for the Oportunity SNOWBOARDMAG.

well to be honest life is at a low point right now for me being that I was just diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes insulin dependent, but shreddin down a slope, or shredding on a board period helps me to be free of it all, It seems like everytime I turn around I have some doctors appointment to go to and medical bills to pay so buying a new shred stick right now just isnt in the cards for me and if I won this, it would help with dealing with all the insulin injections, finger pricks, bulls**t doctors, monitoring what i can eat and drink, and the list keeps going anyways the magazine is sick and I would love to rock the new gear.

Jussi is a sick rider plain and simple. shreds everything he touches and has a passion and love for the sport. I've always wanted to ride his setup but his board is pretty pricey. would love to shred with one of my favorite riders setups. peace

Well im not gonna try and write up some sob story so heres all ive got to lay down on the table. Lived and surfed California my whole life, parents just got divorced and I had to move in with my pops in this small town call blue river. Well any way sense I cant surf I have picked up snowboarding. All the guys here seem to do it so kind of have devoted my time to it. Usually go every day after school if I can. I would love to get this setup because currently using a size 138 K2 Brigade from 1990 which is older than me, and im 5,11 so the board is easy to spin with but looks retarted when I go to carver because of my height. Also have to borrow my friends old boots which we had to cut the insolation out of to make room for my feet. That is my sob story, I cant really say more than that it would just be really nice to have a set up to ride with where I didnt have to borrow gear all the time. If you pick me thanks alot Jussi if not I hope whoever you pick is happy with this sick setup.

heres my story.. i'm 15 and moved from jacksonhole to dry and hot tucson Arizona, becuase my parents split. not too much shredding here. when i moved beeing the nice person i am i gave away most of my gear. (except a couple beenies and bandanas) Not beeing able to board for more then a week sucked, but now i haven't been able to for a good 2 months. some Good news is i'll be able to go back to jackson for the last 3 or 4 weeks of the season. A couple days ago i called up some friends and asked if they still had my gear. Most of them had either sold it or lost it. All i could get back was one binding ( with one strap), a stained and burnt jacket, and my board with no tail. As you might have assumed i'm in need of some fresh gear. Becuase i always say if two guys do something like a 360 and one is wearing black and the other is wearing a fly outfit the fly outfit will make it more stylish. And also i personally think that jussi should of been a jackson kid. becuase of his mad talent. thanks fo

I'm 11 and i need a 159cm board and right now i have a 132. my parents cant afford to buy me a board or any new outerwear because, were almost bankrupt and when ever i go to the hill i always gwet made fun of because my stuff is way to small for me.

This gear is really nice. i am really hoping that i win this gear so that i can actually snowboard for once. instead of having to work for a week to buy a day pass with rentals i can just hit the slopes with my new gear and really step up my game. right now i dont even have enough money for a computer so i am at a local library. If i won this gear i would save up my money to help other people who have the same problem i have right now. i would try to start a group that goes to local resorts and see's who deserves new gear the most. i would then save up money along the side and have fundraisers to surprise the snowboarding enthusiast with some new gear!!!
