Ms. Superpark Day 3
Tom Monterosso
The wind died down and the sun peeked its face through the clouds around noon yesterday, and the women were raring to go, and go they did, HUGE that is.
The afternoon started off with a gigantic hip session that involved most of the ladies in attendance. The standout rider on the hip had to be Meghan O’Brien, whose frontside airs were enormous and she was almost clearing the entire hip.
The jump was going off as well, and there were a few women peppered around the quarterpipe as the barbecue was firing out burgers like a Memphis belle does children. Towards the end of the day, we chose some of the standout riders from Day 3 and held them for a night session photo shoot.
From 4 to 8 p.m., these ladies went off. The hip was slaughtered, as Vera Janssen, Hana Beaman, Silvia Mittermuller, Leanne Pelosi, Meghan O’Brien and many others were boosting, and then pointing it straight to the step-up over the fence. Leanne, Hana and Silvia were destroying the step-up.
The nighttime jump session was insane, with some of the best female snowboarding going down this year. Claudia Firri stomped the holy hell out of a frontside 7 that could help bridge the gap between men’s and women’s snowboarding. Cheryl Maas was landing backside 3 double rewinds that were rather insane as well. Silvia was slaughtering the jump too, landing a few killer tricks throughout the day, and women’s Superpass winner Megan Ginter was putting down some solid tricks too. Oh yeah, and Marie France-Roy was rumored to have landed a switch backside 7 during the day session.
