Superpark 10: The Final Days

The weathermen were right on for day three of Superpark as a storm rolled into Keystone, CO and blanketed the hill with a few inches of fresh snow which was just enough to force a weather day, giving riders a well needed day of rest.

So after a day break, the action was back on for the fourth and final day of Superpark 10. There was no snow in the forecast and the day proved to be the best of the bunch, with clear blue skies, a blazing sun and calm winds, the conditions were ideal for riders to take it to the next level.

Everything in the park was cut perfectly and the features that had yet to be tested, like the Boreal Mountain channel gap, were taken down. In fact every feature in the park got sessioned today, from the gigantic hip, which Scotty Lago and Louie Vito were boosting off, to the Junkyard Jibs of Bear Mountain, which incorporated an old truck box and a culvert into a jibtastic Clayton-creation!

It was rider’s choice in the park, with something for everyone, giving riders the opportunity to session whatever they wanted at whatever pace they felt most comfortable. This created micro-sessions where some riders were jibbers, some were jumpers, and some were tackling everything they could get their board on. As the music blasted through the park and the riders threw down, the mountain was electric. Everyone from the event staff to the spectators were having a great time as the final day of Superpark coincided with the final day of riding for the season at Keystone. Spring fever was definitely in the air as a skier poached the park in nothing but his ski boots! It was not a pretty sight.

But the riders stayed focused and continued to slaughter the jumps as the Channel Gap feature got love from many of the riders today. With the sun baking the snow, they were having to point it from the top of the mountain just to clear the table at the very bottom of the hill. But only one rider truly conquered the Channel Gap and that was Travis Robison, who was the ONLY rider at Superpark 10 to gap over the channel. Most other riders had been hitting it as a table but Travis stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the Superpark by going huge over the channel.

And what would Superpark be without a bit of Canadian mayhem, and we had just the man for it. Andrew Hardingham held it down on and off the hill everyday of Superpark, but on the final day he stepped up his game, checked his sanity at the start ramp and dropped into the rider’s right kicker on the Big Bear jump and instead of hitting it normally, he shot of the right side of the kicker gapping over the run and into a grove of trees where he flew through the branches just barely squeaking his way through a pine tree field goal and landing just inches for a painfully thick trunk. And he didn’t just hit it once; no he went back for two more goes. Pretty crazy, eh!

So much went down at Superpark 10 that this is only a little tease. You will be able to get all the behind the scenes action and in-depth coverage, exclusive photos and more in the print edition of SNOWBOARDER MAG Superpark 10 Edition. Until then, check out the exclusive video of the final days of Superpark 10 only at SNOWBOARDERMAG.COM.

A big thanks goes out to all of the Keystone staff and employees who helped make this event a huge success and also to all the builders of Big Bear Mountain, Boreal Mountain and Keystone!
