TUNE IN TOMORROW FOR DAY 3!

A long first day of riding had worked most of the pros into a partying frenzy as most spent last night’s wee hours in the Hoodoo Lounge and Night Club, making for a rough morning. The action kicked up fast though in the early afternoon; as the temps rose and the snow softened up, riders began to push the limits of Superpark 9’s features.

Previously untested, the massive double hip was on many people’s hit lists for today. The session that went down on the hip was amazing—everyone was pushing each other to boost just a little bigger. Bluebird skies set down the perfect backdrop and photographers got to work, shooting all the hip action. Mike Suderman brought serious speed into the hip and soared several of the largest airs Superpark 9 has seen thus far. Peter Line was back today; working between the quarterpipe and the hip, he charged with his usual style, jumping way out on the hip and showing every up-and-comer what snowboard style is all about.

While the hip was going off, a group of riders determined to conquer the jib on the scaffolding that eluded them yesterday began to session the quarterpipe. Local Rude Boys shop rider Thomas Lacroix progressively pounded out huge airs and finally rocked the box, 20 feet above the lip. Cheers from the other boarders shot up, which signaled the conquering of another Superpark 9 giant.

There must be something in the water here, as local talent dominated today’s quarterpipe session. The park staff at Lake Louise of Dom Pelosi, Nick and Chuck killed it, charging the box and airing way out above the lip.

Apparently, word of this year’s epic conditions and amazing features got out as riders from all over are now making their way into town. Kale Stephens, Eero Niemelä, Mikey Rencz, Joni Malmi and Kevin Sansalone all made the trip out from Whistler to ride. Day two closed down with the lifts running late again and the shredders killing it until the light gave out and the groomers took over, prepping the run for tomorrow’s action.
