SUPERPASS: SNOWBOARDER Magazine's Contest Series
In SNOWBOARDER’s quest to bring extraordinary shredding journalism to our faithful readers, we decided it was time to pay it forward, because the literate riders who are eyeballing our text are also the ones who are craning necks all across the country. What better way to afford our readers the opportunity to grace the pages of SNOWBOARDER than to host a contest series in which the highest on the podium wins an all-expenses paid trip (courtesy of Burton, DVS, and Keystone Mountain) to our most coveted event, Superpark 11: Proving Grounds? Hundreds turned out for the event, and only a handful were chosen. What transpired in our cross-country trek to find the most talented shredders in this great nation of freedom? Well… The first stop at Bear Mountain provided all the fixins for a contest done proper. With howling winds and swirling snow, the riders toughed it out and annihilated the slopestyle course. We took the top ten and headed over to the quarterpipe, where the best were slowly separated from the rest. When the wind had settled, it was Bear local Scotty Vine that had won his way into our hearts and into Superpark 11. Just as quickly as we had arrived, we vanished—back onto the road to find the second winner of our golden ticket. Northstar-at-Tahoe was destination numero dos, and proved to be our most successful stop. Bluebird skies, warm weather wind, and a freshly-cut Vans Cup Slopestyle course were on the menu. Fifty kids and a final round in the Burton Stash later, the winner was chosen. East Coast transplant Kade Madsen took it with his consistent jumping and sleepy style on all things jib.
Stevens Pass was our third and final showdown. A heavy jump line and bad visibility took its toll on all of the riders, but they pulled through, and we shuttled them over to a monster up-box with thirty feet to the knuckle for the finals. Corey Noble managed the close-called victory and was rewarded with…well, you know the deal. We would see Scotty, Kade, and Corey again, but next time, they would be standing above the most intense snowboard park they had ever laid eyes on, so we figured their previous stoke would turn to fear, but these young bucks held their own during the main event. Hell, quit reading this garbage and check out the photos to see for yourself! Until then, we’ll see you next winter, scattered about the land for SNOWBOARDER’s Superpass series. Sayonara, suckers! SNOWBOARDER would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who made this series a success, including all of the riders, Burton Snowboards, DVS, Keystone, Big Bear, Stevens Pass, and Northstar-at-Tahoe. |
