Not much is known about ole’ Jake Devine. He’s kind of the mysterious type like Holden Caulfield or Friedrich Nietzsche. But Jake is a philosopher of shred. He goes all existential off jumps and postmodern on the rails. After his summer rest, Jake was amped to get a little riding in. I was lucky to chat with him and his girlfriend Lacey, for a little bit after the Pacifica Big Air rail jam, where Jake nonchalantly won an $1100 prize.

Dylan Silver: You drove over just for this event?
Jake Devine: We left Truckee this morning so early. It was snowing over Donner Pass at Boreal. It was sick. It was dumping for a while; there was already cars spinning in the road, crashing and stuff. Hopefully, we come back and to a little snow to go shred a picnic table when we go home tonight.

It’s pretty cool having a rail jam where you can see the ocean.
This was tight. It was really fun and mellow. First time on my board in a couple months.

How was your summer?
Summer has been good, just skateboarding a lot. Living out in Truckee, California. Ya it’s sick.

Did you travel at all this summer?
No didn’t go anywhere this summer. Last March I went to Japan for the first time. It was sick. I went there with Gabe Taylor and Mitch Nelson. We met up with the Endeavor team.

What videos are you in this year?
I’m in the Technine movie, Cold World and Autumn Line’s This Is For Everyone.

Do you have any funny stories from last year?
Ya, so many. I can’t really think of anything appropriate at the moment. I just finished that contest and I can’t breathe right.

Who are you shredding for these days?
I ride for Artec, Planet Earth, Thirty-two, Technine, Elm, Electric, got some Grenade Gloves on my hands, and I think that’s it.

How did you two meet?
Lacey- We met through Travis (Kennedy).
Jake- Me and Travis met this girl, Lacey, partying out in Reno all the time. We’ve been kickin’ it for almost a year and stuff.

So you live in Reno, Lacey?
No, I live in Truckee now. I just moved up there a couple weeks ago.

Do you snowboard, Lacey?
I try. I can make it down the mountain. (laughs)

What are you doing next year?
I’ll be filming, getting photos. I’m [filming for the] Technine video again; probably some other spots up in some other videos.

Is there anywhere you really want to go next season?
I want it to snow a lot in Tahoe, so I can get powder there. I want to go to Alaska eventually. I want to go back to Canada because the powder there is amazing.

Are you more stoked on rails or powder?
I’m stoked on powder. Going out on my snowmobile, just hitting natural pillow jumps over rocks and going big and stuff.

What tricks are you “going big” on?
All of them. I just got to dial all that sh*t out. (laughs)
