$15,000 Awarded To USA Snowboard Association Athletes
04/04/03 - Press Release

United States of America Snowboard Association
(USASA) awarded scholarship funds totaling $15,000 to 167 USASA members at the
2003 USASA National Championship. The 13th Annual USASA National Championship
was held at Sunday River, Maine on March 24-30. The week of snowboarding
competitions and festivities attracted over 1,000 riders between the ages of 3 to
60, from Alaska to Maine, specializing in a variety of snowboard disciplines.
Each year, USASA members who qualify for the USASA National Championship can
apply for a USASA Scholarship simply by completing the application requirements.
The applicants are evaluated for the following criteria; grad transcripts,
letters of recommendation, photograph of applicant and snowboarding results.
The scholarship awards this year ranged from $25.00 to $600.00 and can be used for
any accredited school or institute of learning, coaching programs or summer
snowboard camps. Scholarship funds can be held in the USASA scholarship endowment
fund and used for future college tuition.
"The USASA Scholarship Endowment is one
highlight of the USASA National Championships," said Tom Collins, USASA Executive
Director. "We recognize the importance to support the academic aspect of a
child's development. The USASA members are typically well-rounded, have good
grades and are excellent athletes. Members of USASA not only have fun and meet
new friends, they build confidence and develop self-esteem through participation.
Our scholarship awards are one way we support educational development."
