Rome Snowboards hosted the World Premier of their first ever team video ANY MEANS at the now defunct Timber Ridge Ski Hill in Londonderry Vermont Saturday August 25th.

This wasn’t a premier. It was a festival complete with a jib contest, punk bands, mini ramps, camping, and the ANY MEANS debut.

The afternoon started off with Rome trucking in chopped ice for the jib contest. I must say, it wasn’t a mid winter set-up, but for late August, it was great for the snow deprived east coast shredders. They attacked the box and rail all afternoon and into the night. Here are the top three shreds of the day.

3.  Tucker Spear - Rome Jacket

After the jib contest the Snowboarder motor home fired up the grill with the help of Bill Langlands, owner of the Darkside snowboard shops, serving hot dogs and hamburgers for all the starving stomachs.

The Rome ANY MEANS video started around 9pm, right around that time the Gods became active, clouds started to form, lightning illuminated the sky, but the show moved on. ANY MEANS had a great opening segment that led into some awesome big mountain riding by Jonaven Moore. The French Canadians LNP and Will Lavigne had great parts destroying rails, and killing it on jumps as well. Some other cool parts were shots of the flophouse where all the dudes were jibbing, rocking, and partying around the house they had in Truckee this past season. Marie France Roy had an amazing part. She had some insane shots from Snowboarder Magazine’s Ms. Superpark (I had to get that plug in there.) Her part is quite possibly the best female video part ever. Other standouts in the video were Casey Neffus, Marius Otterstad, and Jesse Fox. Bjorn Leines' segment has big jumps and great natty terrain annihilation. I love watching his hard charging style. ANY MEANS is a team video with individual parts, but it has a great feeling of riding with your crew.

During the entire movie the Gods from the heavens above were threatening they would open up the clouds and let it rain. Luckily they held off till the end of the flick when a sudden burst of wind ripped the awning right off Snowboarder Magazine’s Motorhome and flipped a couple pop-up tents. Fortunately the rain only lasted a few minutes, cooling everyone off.

Oh wait! How could I even forget? Before the ANY MEANS video kicked off the locals put together a kick ass fireworks display. I’m not talking about a couple sparklers and bottle rockets, but a serious show that would make any small town jealous. Thanks dudes.

After the video was over people started milling around the old Timber Ridge lodge and the giant bonfire next to tent city. The EESE crew had a tight little camp set up with a grill where people were hanging around. A beer pong table was set near the fire so they could see who was winnin’ and who was cheatin’. Luckily, no one was burned while jumping over and walking through the fire. Since this festival was on private land and everyone there was camping we didn’t have to worry about cops wrecking the party due to loud noise as they normally do. Can anyone say World Quarters at this place?

At the eleventh hour Dave Schiff finally made his arrival. Dave drove straight through from Portland, Oregon, 48 hours of driving, just to attend the festival. He gets the dedication award for his efforts. Will we see him at Rome’s West Coast Premier in Tijuana? I’m guessing yes.

Morning arrived too quickly a low fog had formed at the bottom of the hill over tent city, or was that just my head? Not sure, but people were skating the ramp at first light and it was hurting my head. Slowly everyone packed up their tents, brushed their grizzled teeth, and headed home to pray for early snow.

As we drove home in a daze, stories from the previous night were being retold & revealed. We look forward to next years big bash. Or wait, World Quarters here this winter? Stay tuned for updates on the return of the greatest East Coast Snowboard Event.
