ROME Any Means Tijuana Premiere

There were those who said it couldn’t be done, who said people would go to jail, get drugged, get abducted and get diseased. I call those who say such things pussies. The Rome Any Means premier did happen in TJ on September 8th, 2007 and no, none of the above even came close to happening. Snowboarders talk a badass game, sure they’ll drop steep chutes, give ‘er switch 720 FT off a backcountry booter and session helsinki handrails like there’s no tomorrow but when it comes time to cross the busiest border crossing in the world, San Ysidron, most are wimps.

Those who did make it to TJ didn’t see a donkey show, didn’t get their kidneys stolen and didn’t have to fend off any chicklet pushers. On the flipside they didn’t have to wait in time for drinks, didn’t have to worry about having the right ticket and most important of all they didn’t have to wait to see one of the best snowboard videos of the year.

Everyone on the Rome team slaughtered it in Any Means. While Jonaven Moore and BJ Leines opened and closed the show the other parts were equally impressive. Jesse Fox, Will Lavigne, Yan Dofin, and LNP took North America apart. Then there was Marie France Roy. After seeing this breakthrough womens part all LNP had to say was “Switch backside sevens! I can’t even do that trick.”

Of course plenty of people did make the run for the border to the premier. Lending Marie support for her main part were fellow Runway riders Leanne Pelosi, Alexis Waite, and Priscilla Levac. Also making it all the way to TJ from VT were Dirty J and Casey Neefus who were presented with a $1000 check for their hitchhiking adventures by Rome’s Ryan Runke.

Sadly this will probably be the last premier in TJ. As of January 1st, 2008 everyone will be required to have a passport when traveling back and forth to Mexico or Canada as opposed to now, where all anyone needs is a valid ID and a set of balls.
