Cricket Campus Rail Jam Tour: First Stop CU
Once upon a time, in the majestic land of snow-capped mountains and big horned sheep, Galvanic Design hosted its very first stop of the Cricket Campus Rail Jam Tour at the University of Colorado at Boulder. In partnership with Boulder Freeride, one of the largest collegiate snowboard and ski clubs in the nation, the jam was erected right smack dab in the middle of campus, interrupting neighboring classrooms and study nerds in the library. As Boulder Freeride’s third year hosting a rail jam on campus, they sure have earned their bragging rights.
The set-up, a product of Galvanic Design, was no backyard jib arrangement. The 70ft long/ 20ft tall scaffolding masterpiece was finely endowed with three band new rails, courtesy of Eclipse Snow Park. It was so tall that they had to line the sides with huge beanbags incase anyone went flailing over the side…and one girl did…twice. It was almost as if those beanbags were strategically placed, just for her.

Through two heats of 44 riders, an unbalanced mix of snowboarders and skiers, the top 20 moved on to the finals, which lasted another hour of insane front boards through the kinks of the 30ft down-flat-down rail. Shredders also threw out other little gimmicks to knock the lights out of their opponents. The survival of the fittest left three dudes and three dudettes to be crowned and awarded with more treasures than they could carry home themselves.
First place winner Rem Robinson took home $300 and tons of product. Second, Eric Singer, received a Signal snowboard plus other various items, and third place rider, John Adkins, walked away with a brand-spankin-new Forum snowboard. The ladies winner, Michelle Zeller, got hooked up with insane product from Dakine, Electric, and Backcountry.com. Amanda Hankison, Miss Second Place, got pretty much the same glory. Not bad eh?
Overall, “Fight Under the Lights” was the most legit rail jam CU has ever seen…ever. Without Galvanic Design, Eclipse Snow Park, Boulder Freeride, Signal Snowboards, Giro, Cricket Wireless, Civil Apparel, Keystone, Red Bull, Fuel TV, Spyder, and SNOWBOARDER Magazine, it wouldn’t have been possible. Oh, and thank God for Clif Bar, those warm brownie bars kept the crowd going, aside from the fact that they were numb from the waist down.
