ASJ HALFPIPE 2007
Due to the overwhelming duties of all Snowboarder Magazine writers, we were forced to tap into the endless talent pool that is the children’s population at Mt. Hood. Campers abound of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. We thought their insight would be more than enlightening, so we stopped four different kids on the High Cascade Facility and asked them what they thought.
Barry, 13, Male from Massachusetts, right outside of Woburn.
Cindy, 17, Orange County, 30 miles south of insanity.
Dugan, 15, Minnesota. That’s all he wanted to say.
Robby. 24, Taiwan. Over the globe.
We talked to them after both the men’s and women’s runs, and this is what they had to say:
Barry: That chick was wicked good. What the hell was her name? Whatever, I was ears deep in hot dog. Best dog this side of the green monster. Oh yeah, Kelly Clark was going freaking huge. Second Place I think. And Janna Meyen. Personally, her style was running hot. First place, mitts down in the steeze section. But they don’t just judge style. Hmph. WINGAH!!!! JETER SWALLOWS!!!
Cindy: I love Gretchen’s style. Her hair is just so perfect. I’m really jealousy about it. I thought she like, totally deserved her first place prize. She had a really nice 7 and a couple fives somethingorothers way over my head. I’m like 5 foot something inches too. Almost 6 feet. Or 8. I wonder if her boobs are real, or if they are like mine? My mom got them for me…
Dugan: I was actually blown away with Claire Bidez’s 900. No only was she going huge, but there are few girls who can actually do that trick. On top of best trick, she got third place.
Robby: There is no way I’m going to talk to you unless I can eat pieces of that porch.
After a brief cutting and salting, the men took charge for the main event.
Barry: Dude! Scotty Lago is friends with my cousin up near Saugus. He did this rewind 540 thing that so so sick ass sick on the first hit, it made my legs go numb. I saw Keir Dillon do a bonkers alley-oop mctwist, and that won best trick; it was good, don’t get me wrong, but nobody had seen Scotty’s trick before. Scotty got 3rd, and looks pretty strong for the overall right now.
Cindy: Ohmigod Ohmigod Ohmigod Ohmigod Ohmigod Ohmigod DANNY KASS!!! He’s such a dreamboat! His hair is as long as mine. I think he should Nair his mustache. I do! His run was kind of perfect. He did some 1048s that were back to back and some other tricks that the Australian Hulk Hogan, The Dingo, had never seen before. Marry me!!!
Dugan: Kevin Pearce’s consistency was amazing. I was rooting for Mason, but he even agreed his riding in practice was better. Kevin has been practicing his mctwists with Terje, I just know it. His second place standing was what I had hoped for. Yeah Kev!Louie Vito and Luke Mitrani deserve mention as well. Great showmen. Going big. Different tricks. Awesome.
Robby: If you make me eat that piece of raccoon again, I’m going to vomit so loudly. Whatever, you only live once, right?
So there you have it. The kids love it. The pros live it. We report it. Pee out!!!
