Grenade Games 5 Whistler: The Shenanigans Continue

Sammy Luebke blasting well above the heads of unsuspecting photogs in the Blackcomb pipe during the pipe qualifiers at Grenade Games 5.

The clouds have parted in Whistler and the sun shown down upon would be contenders in the pipe qualifiers at the fifth annual Grenade Games. Never thought we’d see qualifiers … or side slippers, or ski patrollers for that matter at the Grenade Games but hey the times they are a changin’! Tomorrow the 30 riders who didn’t get tapped out by Grenade TM Kevin Casillo will be back at the pipe to battle it out. And yes for all those wondering, Nike Snowboarding’s Bobby Meeks made the cut and will be snowboarding in the finals tomorrow. Yeah Bobbo!

The pipe on Blackcomb has two meaty side hits cut out of either pipe wall up top, a couple boxes on the lips and a five-foot tall stump towards the bottom. Lucas Magoon was tackling the stump and reaching for tail blocks on top of the thing; our boy Andy Finch was soaring around like a one winged bird knocking monster cans off the top of the stump with one arm in a sling from a recent reconstructive surgery on his shoulder. Dustin Craven and Sammy Luebke were putting on a bit of an airtime airshow, and everyone was stoked to have good weather back. Check back tomorrow to see what went down and who took home the W.
