So the fat lady has sung and Grenade Games 5 is officially a wrap. After six days of snowboarding, partying, and general mayhem, the Grand Finale was a custom-built slopestyle course at the base of the Whistler gondola in the Village. The setup went like this—first a bomb drop that was about 20-something feet that took riders into either a gap jump that was somewhere around 50-feet or a step up to butter box followed by a step down.
Lucas Magoon was 360’ing and slamming into the vertical front wall of the butter box about 20-feet off the ground and attempting to ride out, which seemed impossible but Goontown managed to ride away and the crowd was stoked. The other attempt was to air over the entire butterbox as one jump, Dave Fortin attempted this feat and landed in a heap on the ground, luckily he turned out ok with nothing more than a broken thumb and some bruises. After the jump options, riders could either hit a jump into a vertical log-tap or a stair feature with a down rail, and down-flat-down. From there was a little mini spine and rounding the course out was a small transfer rail at the bottom.
At the end of the contest third place went to Wyatt Caldwell, second to Jesmond Dubeau, and first to Craig Beaulieu. Best Babe went to Robin Van Gyn, and Grenade TM Kevin Casillo was named The Most Radical Dude.
