Fresh and Tracked with Chad Otterstrom
Check out Chad Otterstrom's list of What's Hot and What's Not in Snowboarding.
FRESH
Tow-in quarterpipe contests: Catchin’ sweet air is where it’s at. You can go way faster with a snowmobile and not even know it.
Pow days: Exactly—fresh.
Volvos: Will be tracked someday, but not now.
Doubling up tricks: Double-corking, double backside-rodeoing… Everyone’s doin’ it. I really want to learn that one; I love hucking.
Tall T’s: Until Louie Vito trips on his, or someone steps on it.
Jeans on the hill: As long as you don’t fall and they’re not tight, you’re good to go.
Switch Backside 5-0s: Still haven’t seen a good one of those. That would be fresh.
Snowmobiling: Just as fun as riding chairlifts.
Colorado: ’Cause you don’t have to chase your bro’s crew to the jump, it doesn’t rain in the winter, and the sun is out most of the time.
Bandana face-masks: Keeps the sun away, keeps your face fresh.
TRACKED
Jib contests: The setups are too small, they need sketchier rails, and the trick combos are played out.
Halfpipe contests: At least for three more years, or at the X Games. I still like riding them, though.
Snowboard parks: Go hike into the woods and find a tree to jib, or build a cool jump. Land on your back in the pow.
Audis: I still like ’em, but they’re tracked.
Boardercross: At least for three more years. It’ll still suck then, but the Olympics will hype it, so I’ll watch it anyway and it’ll be entertaining.
Snowmobiling: They blow up and you have to leave ’em.
Hiking: Snowmobiles are way more fun.
Toe-cap straps: I never liked them. They just squish your toes back.
MySpace: It freaks me out. Too much information.
Matching your jacket and pants: Skier style.
