Burton Am Series Keystone: Halfpipe

Words: Jacob T Weber & Tom Jim

The warmest/snowiest day there ever did be in beautiful Colorado couldn't stop the Burton Am Series at Keystone. This, the 3rd stop of the tour marked our first super pipe contest... and the Keystone riders did not disappoint. In a day far more suited to backcountry face shots or hippie slashing the Imperial Bowl, the Burton crew found themselves slogging through the early morning darkness setting up what would turn out to be a surprisingly entertaining contest.

Despite the atrocious half pipe conditions (multiple inches in the flats and light flatter than a 2x4) everyone found a way to throw some of their best maneuvers. The men and ladies both found themselves battling the unforgiving conditions all the way to the finals. Alex Leblanc sent an amazing 8-10 foot backside 9 on his first hit and laid down the trick of the day. 11 year old Hallie Solderholm left everything on the mountain by launching a ballsy backflip on her frontside wall. She didn't stomp but she upped the level of commitment tenfold.

In the end consistency and amplitude stood out the most. Leslie Glenn and Jake Black, for the second year in a row, won the Colorado stop of the Burton Am Series. They stood above the field and found themselves on top of the podium $1000 dollars richer and one step closer to the US Open.

We will be at Keystone one more day for the Slopestyle shred down. Then the next stop on the Burton AM Series will be Summit at Snoqualmie in Washington on January 31st – Febuary 1st. Spots are still available. Registration info and event details can all be found at www.burton.com/amseries . As always thank you to our sponsors SNOWBOARDER magazine and Amp Energy who without this tour just would not be possible. Also, verbal high fives to the entire staff a Keystone they have taken care of us more than anyone could ask for.
