Battle Wounds-The Riding ClownBy Phil Knowles
During my first real year of snowboarding I decided to be a little hardcore and try jumps. I wasn't doing too bad, a cracked tail bone was about as bad as it got till the last day of the year. It was warming up and the snow was melting to ice. I went off a small jump and gained speed very quickly and tried to slow down. I slowed down alright. I lost my balance, fell over, and rolled backward, hitting my head on an electrical box, cracking my head open. I had a 2nd grade concussion. When I got back up, my head felt like it got put underneath a vise and my eyes were crossed-eyed. I went down one more run after that before we left. That's when my brother-in-law noticed I was bleeding from the head. To make matters worse, my uncle gave me aspirin. I felt like crap the rest of the night, but I'm still attempting jumps. |
