Battle Wounds - PARALYSIS

2/17 - By Jennifer Ackers

Last season I was riding at Mountain Creek, NJ and some asshole, who either didn't know how to snowboard or thought he was cool going 100mph down the hill on the most crowded day of the year, ran into me (the downhill rider), knocking me unconscious. Ski patrol let this kid go free and sent me to the emergency room where they diagnosed me with a broken wrist. However, it turned out that my wrist wasn't broken. Instead, I had fractured my shoulder blade, a vertebret, and tore two nerves completely out of my spine. So now my right (and dominant) arm is paralyzed and there's nothing that can be done about it.

I'm still snowbarding, except that now I wear a helmet and keep a closer eye on who's behind me. I have a new nickname too...Deadarm! This is me after my first surgery. I couldn't take this sling off for a month, which got pretty rank very quickly.
