A HOLE IN MY CHIN AND A DISLOCATED JAW2/10 - By Tim Evans
It was the start of the 2004 season in Aus and I was just getting warmed up in the terrain park at Mt. Buller. I had no problems with any of the rails I had done that day, so decided to hit the second largest rail in the park with a FS Boardslide. Just before the kicker, I kinda realized that I had too much speed, but it was too late to bail so I went for it any way. Big mistake.... I landed on the rail fine and slide it for a couple of meters, but then I slipped out and--because I was going too fast and didn't have time to get my hands onto the rai--my arms straddled the rail and I did a total face plant. I just thought it hurt alot and that I would be fine. My jaw clunked real bad when it closed and hurt a heap, which I just wrote off as a jared jaw. I got to the bottom of the park and my mate just laughed and asked me how my jaw was feeling. Fair enough. It was bleeding bad and the front of my jacket was covered in blood. I went straight to the doc's, saw the price and just asked for a couple of band-aids instead of seeing someone. I put them on and on I went. When I got home that night, my jaw was really sore and was still bleeding a bit 8 hrs after it happened. My dad said he would take me to the hospital in the morning. The next day we went to the emergency after x-rays and being checked by the doctor. I was told that I had seriously screwed my jaw and had actually dislocated. It was too late to do anything about my chin, but it would have needed about 7-8 stitches. I was sent home after being told to look after my jaw and to be prepared for a big scar. Big surprise: I got one. |
