Battle Wounds - A Shattered Collarbone And Cracked Shoulder Blade

By John Bryant

Last Sunday while working at Gunstock, my local mountain, I took my lunch break and decided to take a couple runs down the park. Some guy from Mountain Dew was set up at the big air jump, shooting pics of prospects. Our mountain is very small (www.gunstock.com) and the jump isn’t large enough to provide enough air to land anything over a rodeo 7 smoothly. I nailed a rodeo 7 and wanted to impress the guy more, so I then went for a 9 ... bad idea. I landed about a rodeo 8, but then slammed when my edge caught. I shattered my collarbone pretty bad and I am awaiting surgery in the next two weeks.

And the Saturday before this happened, I cracked my collarbone but the crack didn’t reach the cortex or something, so it wasn’t too bad. I sealed the deal though with my recent crash.

If that wasn’t enough, at my orthopedic appointment yesterday, I discovered I had cracked my shoulder blade on top of the shattered collarbone.
